Eurofins Water Hygiene Testing UK is pleased to announce the extension of our PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) water packs to automatically include 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonamide alkylbetaine (6:2 FTAB), also known as Capstone B. As a PFAS, this compound, commonly used in applications such as firefighting foams (AFFF), has recently received increased attention for its environmental persistence and potential health risks.
UK DWI PFAS list update
PFAS compounds, including 6:2 FTAB, have been widely used in industrial and consumer products for their water and oil-resistant properties and are increasingly recognised for their potential to accumulate in the environment and human body.
Therefore, starting in 2025, 6:2 FTAB will be included in the UK Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) PFAS list, expanding the current monitored substances from 47 to 48. As part of this update, the PFAS48 sum, a new cumulative measure of PFAS, will also be introduced, enhancing the overall assessment criteria for water quality.
What does this mean for Eurofins water testing packs?
In response to these regulatory changes, we are updating our water testing services to include 6:2 FTAB in both our clean and unclean water packs automatically so there will be no need to request it as an additional test
- PFAS49 Pack: Now including the PFAS48 sum for clean water testing
- PFAS52 Pack: Enhanced to cover unclean water testing, also incorporating the UK DWI PFAS48 sum
Stay compliant, protect public health
These updates ensure that our testing services are not only compliant with the latest UK DWI regulations but also continue to provide the most comprehensive PFAS monitoring available, addressing the environmental and health risks associated with these persistent compounds.
Our continuously updated testing protocols allow water utility companies, private water suppliers, and other stakeholders to meet regulatory standards, safeguard public health, and minimise long-term environmental impacts.
